Job photo documentation checklist
Copy this list and adapt it to your trade. Keep it short enough for your crew to actually follow it.
On arrival
- Wide shot of each work area.
- Existing damage, close up.
- Access, parking or anything that affects the job.
- The condition of nearby items you could be blamed for.
During the work
- Anything that will be hidden: pipes, cables, fixings, base layers.
- Materials and product labels.
- Surprises you found, along with any extra work you agreed.
- Each stage, before the next trade covers it.
At the end
- The same wide shots from the same spots.
- Close-ups of the finished details.
- The site left clean and safe.
- Keys, meters or settings returned as found.
Make it stick
Turn this list into a work list for each job so the crew can tick items off. Check a few jobs each week at first, and thank people for doing it well.
Questions
Is this too much for small jobs?
For small jobs, take a wide before, a wide after and one close-up of anything unusual.
Should I photograph materials?
Yes, if the client chose or paid for specific products. It helps with warranties and repeat orders.
